First City Monument Bank, FCMB, is one of the leading financial service institutions in Nigeria. It has approximately 7.1 million customers, 206 branches in Nigeria, and a subsidiary in the United Kingdom.
In my first year in school an FCMB marketer walked up to me to open an account with their bank. Although I did, I did not use the account actively until after a couple of years and I found that the bank had great services and this made it become my most active account.
It being my most active account meant I had to use all the functions of the bank to enjoy all the benefits so I downloaded the mobile app. On my first use I did not have the best experience, i found the user experience to be a bit chaotic and my overall experience was frustrating.
To be sure it was not a personal issue I checked the reviews on the app store and saw negative reviews that described my experience and this is why i decided to do a redesign of the FCMB mobile app.
The idea is not to do a complete overhaul of the existing app but to make changes that will allow users enjoy a better experience while still being in a familiar space.
My main goals for this project are;
To improve user experience through research and implementation.
To add additional interfaces for a better experience
Redesign the app and make it more user friendly
Research
Low fidelity Design
Test
Prototype
Validate and test.
The aim of this research is to understand users' current needs and frustration and how best to appeal to them.
I familiarized myself with direct competitors of FCMB to analyze their method of service delivery and they are;
First Bank
Zenith Bank and
Standard Charted.
Afterwards, I conducted interviews with some of the users to understand their experiences.
After compiling results from my research, I was able to establish the users' pain points as;
Log in page is not aesthetically pleasing.
No feature to request transaction receipt.
General navigation of the app should be easier.
The transaction history should be more detailed.
Also, I did a before and after comparison between the old and new design to have better visualisation of the solution.
